“Saulute”, has promoted the installation of handrails, ramps, lifts and the necessary accommodations in public buildings, shops, government and medical institutions, banks. in Lithuania, to make these buildings accessible to people with disabilities. To ride on the sidewalks with wheelchairs, walk safely with crutches or walkers, for the blind to have Braille, audio books and white sticks to maneuver bumps and curves were all promoted by “Saulute”. “Saulute” also promoted (which for some reason was unusual in Lithuania) adoption or at least foster care so that the orphaned or abandoned children could grow up in families units not in institutional settings. This year, thanks to various sponsors 70 computers were bought and sent to Lithuania via “Saulute” so that children could learn remotely. Additional financial aid was sent to a mother who was taking care of a severely disabled child in a home that did not have a functioning well. With this aid their home now had running water. The latest project and challenge “Saulute” is supporting is a project proposed by Arturas Zilys to renovate and equip a room dedicated solely to the education of those with special needs in the Mosedis school in Lithuania.
