STEM Classrooms
Approximately 20% of Sunlight Children’s Aid, “Saulutė” projects in Lithuania are STEM based projects. Rural Lithuanian town municipality’s budgets often lack the funds to provide schools enough to budget for STEM equipment. Teachers are well trained and often must teach theoretical principals or through teacher demonstrations, because they lack the materials to allow their students “hands on” experimentation which is crucial in higher education and technically based jobs. Donations to these projects allow students to receive such items as 3D printers, laboratory tables with hoods and vents, circuit boards, microscopes... Lithuania is quite advanced in STEM technology, however often it is still more accessible to those who can attend private institutions or live in large cities that have a larger tax base that may support their local schools.
